Fifth Week in ABQ! Time flies (yes, town still infested with flies, so it's flying in more ways than one!)
When you're traveling in an RV, you become a conspicuous. "thing" upon the landscape. You are in a large automobile and a incongruous object. In short: you stick out. And, whether they realize it, it bugs the locals. Some even act upon their annoyance. For a longish time, I was parked on the street in front of Chiquita's apartment complex. Here, I was getting the best of both worlds. I was getting electricity from her place (out of a window and to my RV), AND, I was receiving a strong wireless internet connection from her place. But after 3 weeks or so, a neighbor complained. I was alway on shaky ground, knew I was pushing it, so I quickly made the move to the back parking lot where there was a generous space. Since Chiquita has not car, I had a spot, her spot. Back there tho (I was bootlegging electricity from an overheard light socket), I couldn't get internet). If I moved to the pool half a block down, I can log on to free wifi. But I lose electricity. You get the picture. With my RV parking situation now, it's one or the other. Moving the RV means no electricity, computer battery runs down so I gotta get back to my plug. but that means no wifi. I can get along, but it's a pain. It's a good preview of what boon-docking's gonna be like down the road.
SHOT the first scene of Wander Lost and it turned out pretty good. But boy have I hit a road block filming anything else. Far and away the biggest obstacle has been the "talent". The characters in ABQ are terrific! But they are terrific flakes, too. To refer to the Talent as unreliable is a vast understatement. Since I'm not paying, I understand. One way to summarize it is as follows: I pitch the film, I pitch the scene. They are ALL in. As the days go by, the enthusiasm wanes by half.. In three or four days, they can no longer be reached. From there I attempt to find other talent. Rinse, repeat. I'm surprised by my patience, but in a way I'm right on schedule. Because I have no schedule. I'll get "Wander Lost" shot when I get it shot. Parts here in ABQ, parts in Santa Fe, Tucson, AZ or Cali (and any other place I left out) As the very old saying goes, "With every door that closes, another opens up."
